“I Will Fight”: Algerian Boxer Imane Khelif Ready To Fight Against Boxing Organisation Lawsuit

The Algerian Boxer Winner in Imaif Khelif has denounced allegations “false and offensive” after the International Boxing Association (IBA) said that it would continue the International Olympic Committee on it and the inclusion of another female athlete during the women’s female boxes last year. Khelif declared in a statement published on Tuesday on social networks that it “would take all the legal measures necessary to ensure that my rights and the principles of fair competition are confirmed”. The IBA “again made baseless accusations which are false and offensive, using them to advance their program,” she said.

“This is a question that concerns not only me, but the broader principles of equity and the regular procedure in sport,” she added.

Earlier this week, IBA said that it would launch a trial against the IOC for including Khelif and Khelif and Taiwan Lin Yu -Ting – which also won gold – at last year’s Olympic Games in Paris.

The IBA, led by Umar Kremlev, a Russian oligarch linked to the Kremlin, was excluded from the Olympic movement in 2019 for financial and ethical irregularities.

Consequently, the IOC organized boxing in Paris.

Neither khelif nor yu-te Lin are transgender women. The two were born and grew up as women, this is how they are recorded on their passports.

However, IBA prohibited them from its 2023 world championships after declaring that they failed the sexual eligibility tests to wear XY chromosomes.

Medical experts have defined this as a form of “differences in sexual development” (DSD), formerly known under the name of intersexuality, which occurs in approximately one in 1,000 to 4,500 births.

In its declaration announcing the trial, IBA linked its action to the executive order of US President Donald Trump last week to prohibit transgender athletes from participating in female sports.

The IOC has told AFP that IBA’s trial was part of a “campaign against the IOC which is underway since their recognition was withdrawn by the IOC for questions related to governance, judgment and arbitration as well as questions concerning their finances”.

Khelif and Yu-Ting “were born as women, were raised as women and participated in the women’s category for their entire boxing careers,” he said.

“They also participated in the IBA World World Championships and tournaments sanctioned by IBA before becoming victims of a sudden and arbitrary decision of IBA.”
