Coach Luis Enrique said Paris Saint-Germain “may feel like champions” knowing that they could seal the title of Ligue 1 this weekend, but warned his players not to drop their level. The undefeated league leaders go to the second-end of Saint-Etienne, where a victory would obtain a 11th French title in 13 seasons if Marseille lost to Reims and Monaco shoot with Nice on Saturday. “We are never champions until it is mathematically certain, but we can feel like champions, we are the best team in Ligue 1,” Luis Enrique told journalists on Friday.
“We will use these last eight games for other goals, to be competitive against all opponents … to be ready for the three months that remain.
“There is the French Cup and the Champions League, where we want to be until the end.”
PSG faces Dunkirk second in the semi-finals of the French Cup in Lille next week before taking Aston Villa in the last eight of the Champions League.
Luis Enrique does not believe that the possibility of finishing a record title of the 13th Ligue 1 on Saturday should have an effect on the mindset of his team.
“It seems completely unimportant to me, there are eight games in the league, we want to be competitive because it will prepare us in the best way for other competitions,” said Spanish.
“I feel almost the same thing that I did this time this time, we were almost champions, in the semi-final of the Cup and quarter-finals of the Champions League, with young players who have more experience.”
PSG will be without Lee Kang-in against Saint-Etienne after the South Korean has made an ankle injury in international service. Achraf Hakimi is also rested after playing for Morocco in qualifying in the World Cup.
