Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has signed the Gujarat goalkeeper, Urvil Patel, replacing Vansh Bedi, which was excluded from the rest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 due to a ligament tear with the left ankle. Bedi was about to make his IPL debut in the last CSK match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He was appointed in game XI but took the injuries for a few moments before the match and was replaced by Deepak Hooda. With Bedi out of the season, CSK moved quickly to bring Urvil Patel.

Urvil, 26, represents Gujarat in domestic cricket. He drew attention to the national scale during the Syed Mushtaq Ali 2024-25 trophy when he broke the fastest T20 century by an Indian striker – a ton of 28 bullets against Tripipura. This round helped him consolidate his place as one of the most exciting unhappy talents in the country.
Urvil had a memorable campaign in this edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy. He scored 315 points in 6 matches, including two centuries, with an average of more than 78 and a typing rate nearly 230. His attack approach at the top of the Order and the skills of a counter caretaker makes him a precious addition to any T20 side.
Overall, Urvil Patel played 47 T20, marking 1162 points with two hundred and four fifty. He was also part of the Gujarat Titans team in IPL 2023, although he did not have the chance to play.
He joined CSK for his RS 30 Lakh Base Prize and became the third player this season to join the team to replace injury. Earlier, CSK brought Mumbai’s opener, 17, Ayush Mhatre to replace the injured captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, who could only play five games this season. Later, Dewald Brevis in South Africa was added to the team to replace the Gurjapneet Singh stimulator.
Chennai Super Kings has had a difficult season, on and off the field. With only two wins of 11 games, they are at the bottom of the IPL 2025 table and have already been eliminated from the playoff race. With three games still to play, the team will seek to test its bench force and give Urvil Patel its first IPL cap before the end of the season.
