IOA Sets Up Adhoc Committee To Handle BFI, Conduct Elections

The IOA, in its order, said that the mandate of the current BFI officials ended on February 2, but that the elections could not be carried out following a case during the previous elections in which the order went against the BFI.

“IOA closely monitored the administrative affairs of the India boxing federation (BFI). In accordance with government standards, IBF elections were to be carried out on February 2, 2025. However, despite the prescribed timeline, the elections were not held, which led to a letter of administration in the Federation “, the president of IOA, PT USHA, said on Monday.

USHA said several office officials and athletes have written to the president of the IOA complaining of the delay in the conduct of the elections.

“This office has received numerous complaints from stakeholders, including athletes, coaches and authorities concerned, concerning the non-participation of Indian boxers in various important national / international events in recent months. This situation is detrimental to the growth and performance of Indian boxing on the world scene and requires immediate corrective measures, “said USHA in his order.

In his order, USHA said: “The Adhoc Committee acts in a neutral and independent manner, guaranteeing any conflict of interest. All the measures taken must be documented and the files must be maintained for audit and examination purposes”.

“The Adhoc Committee will issue the opinion and the calendar of elections in accordance with the BFI constitution and the current regulatory directives and appoint a return office and an independent electoral observer to supervise the electoral process,” said the letter published by Usha.

The IOA letter also said: “The Adhoc Committee will also be responsible for verifying details of all affiliated state boxing associations and the supply of a specific list of office carriers of these state boxing associations”.

IOA said the order would come into force immediately.
