IPL 2025: Spin Could Play Key Role, Says KKR Bowling Coach Carl Crowe Ahead Of GT Clash

Spin is likely to play an important role when the champions in title Kolkata Knight Riders assume the winner of Gujarat Titans in 2022 in match 39 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Monday. There are quality spinners like Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine in the 11 and Rashid Khan and Sai Kishore of the local team in the Gujarat Titans range. To add to the intrigue, the Eden’s garden track, assigned to the confrontation, is likely to help slow quaisors, making it a tweakers battle. Carl Crowe, Kolkata Knight Riders Spin-Bowling coach, admitted that Spin could play a role in the outcome of this match.

“I mean, yes, there are so many battles in the battle in a game. Obviously, Rashid Khan cannot be taken lightly. We all know that he is a world -class bowling player. We are quite comfortable with the spinners that we have in our group.

“Spin will be a key element, as is always the case with Eden Gardens. And you know, we will always support our spinners,” he said.

When he was asked to compare his spinners with those of the opponent’s rollers, Crowe said that his questions still operated well.

“We are really satisfied with the spinners that we have. You know, they work incredibly hard. You will see not only the economy and the rate of strike, but they always work well for us,” said Crowe, who admitted that the spinners can play in any segment of the game – the power game, the Overs and the means of death, and it is for the captain to wisely use his resources.

KKR enters the match after a disappointing performance against the Kings of Punjab in his previous match at the PCA stadium in New Chandigarh when they failed to pursue a derisory goal of 112 and were overthrown for 95, the lowest total in IPL history.

Crowe said they had done the usual exam they do after each match, adding that it was important for them not to be too high after a victory and too low after a defeat.

“So, as I mentioned earlier, criticisms are exactly the same. People have honestly have small criticisms both individually and with coaches, players will also examine. And in fact, it is important not to be too high or too weak in victories or losses.

“If you look at this game, you know, we have incredibly reversed. We took them out for 111 points. I think that in halfway, we were well at the top. Maybe it was the last part of our sleeves that fell. So, if you over-analysis too much on a quarter and you do not think of the 2/3 hole.

“So, remain coherent in terms of your approach, in terms of your state of mind, to remain positive, I think it is the key element of elite athletes, and we are not different,” said the spin-bowling coach.

Crowe said KKR players are delighted to have Abhishek Nayar in support staff after being relieved of his role with the national team.

“He has been around the franchise for a long time, a very popular member of coaches staff, and the players have communicated regularly with him for several years. So, it’s great to have Abhishek back and undoubtedly a positive impact. Players certainly appreciate all the support he gives them, and it’s great to recover it.

“Obviously, last year, we were champions and it was part of it.
