IPL 2025: Sunrisers Hyderabad Coach Daniel Vettori Explains Where It All Went Wrong

After washing against the Capitals of Delhi (DC), the head coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Daniel Vettori, said that the conditions for Hyderabad were not as they expected and that the surfaces were difficult. After having been the pioneers of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 with an ultra-attacker striking brand led by Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, SRH lost from the 2025 season with only three victories in 11 games after a washing against DC at home on Monday.

Speaking after the match in the post-match press, “I certainly did not say after each match that I supported an aggressive approach. I said that we wanted to assess the conditions and this year, the conditions were not as we expected. If you watch last year, there were a lot of games at high score here.

“These in particular surfaces were a little different. It was delicate, it was not easy for the strikers. Everything we talked about was to assess the conditions, to try to read the game and to understand what to do in certain situations. I think the guys are innovatively aggressive, but certainly, this season was to try to establish what was necessary on the day,” he added.

Hyderabad has welcomed six games so far, and the teams have crossed the 200 -point brand in just four of the 11 rounds in total, against seven in 12 times last year. The conditions were more suitable for bowlings this time.

Vettori said that two out of six surfaces were 250 and more, but the others were friendly for quick quisors, in particular new ball quieuses, who were difficult to strike.

“There have been two surfaces that were over 250 years old, and there were four here which were probably more conducive to quick quesors. Not so much the spinners, but the new ball was a little sticky, difficult to strike, not coming to the batt. The IPL has some of the best Bowlers again in the world, and they were able to exploit these conditions,” he said.

With only three wins in ten games, SRH had to win this match to keep their hopes in living room playoffs. They had reduced DC programming to a bad total of 133/7, but the rain prevented them from bringing home which could have been very easy for two points.

Vettori deplored the lack of coherence shown by the franchise this time, saying: “Obviously, it is disappointing. We came with great hopes, but we were not consistent enough with our performances.

The new balloon exploits of the skipper Pat Cummins prepared SRH for what could have been a complete performance when he ended up with 3/19 figures. With Mohammed Shami, he took responsibility for Bowling the first and hit the very first ball by removing Karun Nair.

Shami’s season was mediocre, having only taken six counters in nine games with an average of 56.16 and an economic rate of 11.23. The coach said that the Indian veteran had been abandoned on the basis of the conditions and congratulated Cummin’s ability to play different roles well.

“It was obviously a difficult season so far for Shami. But he has worked exceptionally hard in the background. We have just seen, especially on this Hyderabad counter, this is the best makeup of this team for us,” he said.

“If you look at his overall performance, he may have been a counter. He (cummins) played [in] A number of different roles for us. He was able to mix and correspond according to which was selected in the team. “”

“Today, I think it was the first [second*] It’s time for him to take the first and you can see why he is a dominant test test launcher when he on the occasion. It is pleasant for him to be able to present himself today and to play so well and to drive the team exceptionally well. Hopefully this is carrying the last three games of the season, “he concluded.

In 11 games this season, Cummins took 13 counters at an average of 27.92 and a saving rate of 9.15, with the best figures of 3/19.

Coming to the match, after being reduced to 29/5, the blows of Tristan Stubbs (41 * in 36 balls, with four limits) and Ashutosh Sharma (41 in 26 balls, with two four and three) brought DC to 133/7. SRH could not continue because the game was washed.

DC is in fifth place with six victories, four defeats and a result without result, which gave them 13 points. SRH is in eighth place, with three victories, seven defeats and a result without result, which gave them seven points.
