President Donald Trump sparked a debate in the world entertainment industry with his latest declaration – plans to impose a 100% rate on films produced outside the United States. The announcement, made via articles on its social media platform Truth Social, has attracted net reactions from filmmakers from around the world, including Indian director Kabir Khan.

Trump argued that international productions have undermined the American film industry, writing: “California, with its weak and incompetent governor, was particularly affected! He also said that foreign nations had “stolen” the creation of United States movements, comparing him to “take candy of a baby”.
Responding to the remarks, Kabir Khan questioned the feasibility and clarity of the proposal. Addressing NDTV, he said, “I have no idea what he means when he says” done outside the United States “because each second Hollywood film is shot outside the United States, the VFX is executed outside the United States. And what’s price? The ticket price? Its declaration is too wide to be understood correctly. First of all, let’s see if they remember that tomorrow when it is too wide. ”
The filmmaker’s comments highlight the concerns of the industry on how such a policy could even be applied, in particular given the high dependence of Hollywood with regard to international shooting places, post-production centers and talent pools.
