Attracting attention to the practical aspect of English in modern India, Kamal Haasan stressed how the country’s historical commitment with the language helped to establish it as a means of communication and neutral education. “And English seems to be fair enough. You can also do Spanish or Chinese. But I think the most practical thing where the shortest route towards this is that we have 350 years of English education, slowly but regularly. So, when you suddenly replace it, it is again.
He then added: “You suddenly force throughout the Hindi and you tell them that you will not get your work beyond Vindhyas, then you start to wonder, what about promises? What about my tongue? Am I not one of the 22 (official languages)? These are the questions that happen. ”
