‘Lucky Number Seven’ For Casper Ruud After Beating Jack Draper To Clinch Madrid Open

Casper Ruud joked on Seven was his lucky number after claiming the most important trophy in his career in his seventh grand finals while he was beating Jack Draper on Sunday to win the Madrid open. The Norwegian, a finalist of the Grand Chelem three times, won his first triumph Masters 1000 with a victory of 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 on the Briton in a two-hour and a half battle at the Manolo Santana stadium. The rising star Draper, who will move fifth in the world ranking on Monday above Novak Djokovic, hoped to add to his title of Indian Wells in March, but Ruud survived him during his third final of the masters.
“It was my seventh grand finale if you count them all, so seven is a lucky number, I suppose,” said Ruud.
“So, it was worth waiting at the end. I was never really too close in any of the finals when I look back – I lost the majority of them in straight sets.”
