Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc Disqualified From Chinese Grand Prix In Yet Another Ferrari Disaster

Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc de Ferrari were both disqualified from the Chinese Grand Prix on Sunday for technical offenses, with Pierre Gasly d’Alpine. The Leclerc and Gas were found by FIA Stewards as having cars that weighed less than the minimum requirements of 800 kilograms while Hamilton was considered to have excessive board wear under his car. Leclerc had finished fifth and Hamilton sixth. Their points will be finished with all the pilots below them who now go up two places.

Gasly finished 11th so was already out of the points.

It was a disastrous end of a weekend that had started so brilliantly for Ferrari when Hamilton won his first victory for his new team in the Sprint on Saturday.

The entire board is a slippage plate which is designed to wear out when the floor strikes against the bumps on the track or the borders.

If it is too worn, it can improve performance because cars can get closer to follow -up, increasing the inverted force of “the effect of the soil”.

“The assembly of the car card 44 (Lewis Hamilton) was measured and proved to be 8.6 mm (LHS), 8.6 mm (central car) and 8.5 mm (RHS). This is below the minimum thickness of 9 mm,” said the stewards’ decision.

“The team also admitted that there were no attenuating circumstances and that it was a real team error.”

For Leclerc, the decision said: “The car 16 (Charles Leclerc) was weighed by the FIA technical delegate inside and outside the two scales showing the same result of 799 kg after the usual fuel drainage and the replacement of a broken front wing.”

“The calibration of the two scales was confirmed and seen by the competitor. During the hearing, there was no challenge to the FIA measures which are considered correct and that all the required procedures were carried out correctly.

“There are no attenuating circumstances and that the team confirmed that it was a real mistake on their part.”

Hamilton, driving a Mercedes, was disqualified from the Grand Prix of the United States 2023 for a problem similar to the task.
