Real Madrid midfielder and Croatia Luka Modric joined Swansea as an investor and co -owner, the championship club announced on Monday. Captain of Croatia, 39, has spent the last 13 seasons with Real Madrid and helped them win six Champions League titles after a spell in Tottenham earlier in his career. Swansea did not reveal how Modric, who won the Ballon d’Or in 2018, had invested, but he expressed his excitement during the use of his knowledge to help the Welsh club, which plays at the second level of the English League.

Modric said on the club’s website: “This is an exciting opportunity. Swansea has a solid identity, an incredible fans base and the ambition to compete at the highest level.

“Playing at the highest level, I think I can provide my experience at the club.

“My goal is to support club growth in a positive way and to help build an exciting future.”

Modric concentrates immediately on the quarter-final of Real Madrid in the Champions League at Home in Arsenal on Wednesday, with his team following 3-0 after the first leg.

His contract at the Bernabeu should expire at the end of this season.

Modric’s decision to invest in a football club follows the Kylian Mbappe teammates and Vinicius Junior doing the same during the Ligue 2 Caen hold and the Portuguese side FC Alverca respectively.

“I am delighted that Luka is on board as a investor and co -owner,” said Tom Gorringe, Managing Director of Swansea.

“There is no better model in the game for our players, from the academy to the first team.”

Swansea is currently 12th in the championship.
