The highly anticipated Hindi romantic film Sundari paramWith Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor, sparked a wave of indignation among the creators of Malayali content. Creators Malaylis Slam Param Sunday for stereotypes, manufacturers accused of silence
The singer and RJ Pavithra Menon were among the first to publicly criticize the representation of Malaylis women in the trailer, targeting in particular the stereotypical representation which includes jasmine flowers worn in the hair and dance scenes of Mohiniyattam in daily life. In her video now deleted, she asked: “Women in Kerala do not walk with jasmine flowers and dancing mohiniyattam.” The video was deleted after Instagram reported it due to a copyright complaint from Maddock Films.
Menon shared a screenshot of the withdrawal notice and ironically joking: “Good day of independence to all those who have a voice.” Without being discouraged, she re-tested the video while expressing her frustration that a Hindi actor was chosen to represent a Malayali character. She asked: “What is the problem of the employment of a good actor Malayali?” Are we less talented? She also suggested simplifying pronunciation challenges saying: “Simply use Trivandrum instead of Thiruvananthapuram – We will be satisfied.”
Another content creator, Vedangi, echoed this criticism and equaled the accusations against the film team. In a new video, she said: “The team behind this film is currently deleting all the creators Malaylis. Several creators have complained about this. Instead of conducting an in -depth study, they chose to capitalize on the culture of Kerala. The representation is extremely deactivated and disrespectful.” She also pointed out that their criticisms were a fair use under article 52 of the Copyright Act, by arguing: “We are free to express our criticisms. However, each Mallu creator who made fun of the trailer received opinions from copyright. I think we were pure and simple.
This reaction adds another layer to the controversy surrounding Sundari paramFollowing an dissatisfaction earlier from the Christian community on a romantic sequence filmed in a church. The community had called for the suppression of this scene of the song of the film.
