McGregor posed for a photo with his arm around Trump’s shoulder while the president was sitting at his office, and for another with a technological magnate and powerful advisor to Trump, Elon Musk.
Tesla billionaire Musk had previously supported McGregor when he spoke in the past of a possible presidential offer in Ireland. Musk has recently spoken out to support a number of anti-immigration parties in Europe.
“Your work ethics are inspiring,” McGregor told Trump, according to images published by an assistant to the American president.
“Yours is also, you are fantastic,” replied Trump.
MC Gregor had previously declared that he would “listen” to Trump on immigration – one of the main areas of interest of the American president while seeking to increase the deportations of people without appropriate documentation.
“We could not think of a better guest to have with us on Saint-Patrick day,” said Leavitt.
McGregor’s comments quickly earned Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin, who met Trump last week at the White House and received a dressing over the trade.
“Conor McGregor’s remarks are wrong and do not reflect the spirit of Saint Patrick, nor the views of the people of Ireland,” published the Prime Minister on X.
Mixed martial arts (MMA) are a sport that combines various combat techniques and can be extremely violent.
He gained popularity, especially since Trump campaigned in 2024 with stars and promoters of the UFC series which is popular with many male voters.
Nicknamed “The Notorious”, McGregor is one of the largest UFC stars, the most famous and lucrative MMA League. He is known for his aggressive and provocative temperament – and was noted for occasional anti -immigration explosions.
In November 2024, the fighter was sentenced by an Irish court to pay damages to a woman who said McGregor “raped and beat” in a Dublin hotel in 2018. McGregor said he had consensual sex.
More recently, the Irishman was prosecuted before an American court in January, accused of sexual assault in a NBA match in Miami in 2023.
Trump has ordered a New York jury in a civil trial in 2023 to pay $ 5 million to abuse and sexually defame the writer E. Jean Carroll.
Trump denied allegations and called on the verdict, which was confirmed in December 2024.
