MS Dhoni To Announce Retirement? Mohammad Kaif Asks Tough Questions, Tears Into CSK Management

India’s former striker Mohammad Kaif suggested the current Indian League (IPL) season could be the last of Ms Dhoni as a player. His remarks came after the Super Kings of Chennai (CSK) underwent their fifth consecutive loss of IPL 2025, losing against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by eight counters at the Ma Chidambaram stadium. It was Dhoni’s first match in charge of the CSK after regular captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was excluded for the rest of the season due to an elbow injury.

Taking at X (formerly Twitter), Kaif wondered if it was the right time for CSK to start thinking in the future. Kaif again sparked the debate on the field, the management of the CSK for having made slow tracks, in particular against a team with a powerful spin attack like KKR.

“Is this last season of Dhoni? The way the CSK season takes place, is the time for a change? Last question: why give slow land at home when the rivals have spinners like Naraine and Varun?” Kaif wrote on X.

After the match, Dhoni said they failed in creating partnerships and using the PowerPlay to the maximum.

“It was a lot of nights that did not take place. Fine,” said the post-match scratch holder.

“What is important is to see the conditions, a few games that we have made decently, to support your strengths and to play the photos you can play. Do not correspond to someone else’s room. Our openers are good openers, it is important not to get the Overs desperate and if we lose counters, the average order must do their work differently.

It was CSK’s heavy defeat in terms of remaining bullets, and the first time they lost five games on the rebound in a season.
