Another slice of the cinematographic heritage of Mumbai should disappear. Famous studios, the 79-year-old cinematic center in Mahalaxmi who echoed lights, cameras and an action, will soon be shaved to make room for a sumptuous residential skyscraper.

The studio, founded in 1943 by JB Roongta, has been part of the history of Bollywood for almost eight decades, offering advanced installations for filming, sound recording and post-production. From emblematic films to advertising filming, countless projects have crossed its doors, making it a benchmark in the creative ecosystem of the city. But the curtains finally descend.
The reports suggest that the landowners themselves seal the agreement and will currently be very interested in the partnership with K Raheja Corp Real Estate. We learned that they have finalized plans to redevelop the conspiracy of 70,000 square feet in a high -rise residential tower. According to the provisions submitted to the Municipal Brihanmumbai Corporation, the new project will increase 69 floors above Mahalaxmi, with apartments from the ninth floor. Designed as 3 and 4-BHK plush houses, each residence will offer a panoramic view of the race course of the sea of Oman and Mahalaxmi.
The commercial component of the project will be minimal, the majority of 4.3 Lakh SQ FT of built zone reserved for luxury houses. Aside from a mixed use label, the accent is clear: Mahalaxmi’s evolution roofs are strongly leaning towards high -end life.
Interestingly, the redevelopment plan also takes into account connectivity with the Mumbai metro. The next tower should fall less than 500 meters from the museum’s metro station, and feasibility studies are already exploring a direct vestibule link between the two.
If this agreement is sealed, for K Raheja Corp, this will mark its third major residential project in Mahalaxmi after Vivarea and Modern Vivarea, more solidifying the transformation of the region into a high -end residential hotspot.
The demolition of famous studios should start by the end of the year, probably before Christmas, the movement comes in the heels of similar redevelopments, including the Goregaon studio, which is also replaced by luxury towers. With almost 80 years of cinematographic inheritance behind this, the studio will soon be confined to memories and archives while it is preparing to join the long list of emblematic addresses of Mumbai lost in the ever higher roofs of the city.
