Newcastle Step Up Champions League Chase As Dismal Leicester Slump Again

Newcastle crossed a 3-0 victory against Leicester on Monday to intensify his charges in the Champions League and condemn the Foxes to an eighth consecutive defeat in the Premier League without scoring. The men of Eddie Howe, still in height after winning the League Cup last month, are in fifth row of the table, at the points with Chelsea, fourth, but with a match in hand. The fifth place will be almost certainly sufficient to obtain a place in the Champions League next season after solid performances of English clubs in continental competition.
But the relegation of the unhappy team of Ruud Van Nistelrooy is almost certain after a solitary season in the Premier League.
The visitors were 2-0 in the 11th minute after two goals from Jacob Murphy, the second a tap at close range after a daring effort by Fabian Schar hit the crossbar, and Harvey Barnes added a third before half.
Leicester scored a league goal for the last time in front of its own fans against Brighton on December 8 and they are the first side of the history of the football league to lose eight home championship matches without scoring a goal.
Newcastle boss, Howe said that his “biggest challenge” had been to focus after the end of their 56 -year -old trophy drought in the League Cup final against Liverpool last month.
“I cannot complete them enough,” he told the BBC.
“They are a very earth and humble group who want to do and represent the club in the right way. They have shown it in recent weeks.”
Howe said that the Champions League race “was going to dress”.
“The following week for us is a big week. We have three really difficult games (against Manchester United, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa) and this will greatly help to see where we are at the end of the season.”
Double Murphy
Newcastle was ahead in the second minute after Tino Livreo has square for Murphy to hit him after an attack on the left.
A few minutes later, the weather was motionless like Schar, spotting the goalkeeper Mads Hermansen of his line, almost marked his own half.
His effort gunned out the crossbar but landed at Murphy’s feet, who was the only player to react.
The match was actually finished in the 34th minute when the former Leicester Barnes player finished at close range after Hermansen saved from Jelinton, refusing to celebrate.
Leicester was better in the second half but lacked bite.
Fans of the house did not have much to celebrate, but applauded the entrance to Jeremy Monga, 15, at the end of the match when he became the second premier League player.
Howe is lucky to add a brilliant to a historic season by qualifying for the Champions League.
Newcastle has exceeded Manchester City, but it is a tight battle for the first five – only six points separate the third Nottingham forest from Aston Villa in seventh place.
Van Nistelrooy arrived at the King Power Stadium in November after a spell as an acting director at Manchester United, but the results denounced after an encouraging start.
The Dutchman said his team was desperately below confidence.
“In the second half, you can see when there is no more pressure, it releases people,” he told Sky Sports.
“Then you see a reasonable football. When the pressure is there becomes very difficult. With a start of goals, it collapses.”
