Pakistan Cricket Board Appoints Former RCB Coach As New White-Ball Head Coach

Mike Hesson from New Zealand was appointed Tuesday as the new head coach of Pakistan White-Ball. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced that Hesson will join the team on May 26, one day after the conclusion of Pakistan Super League (PSL). Hesson, who obtained a name as head coach from New Zealand, was to be the new coach after PCB announced the position after the disastrous tour in New Zealand after the trophy of the disappointing champions at the beginning of this year. Apparently, a total of seven candidates had submitted requests for the position, including four foreigners.

Hesson is currently head coach of Islamabad United, the defending champions of the Super League Pakistan (PAL), and also has experience in training in the Indian Premier.

The president of the PCB, Mohin Naqvi, said that Hesson brings with him a richness of international experience and a proven history of the development of competitive parts.

“We are impatiently awaiting his expertise and leadership in the formation of the future of white ball cricket in Pakistan,” said Naqvi.

Hesson is the fifth foreign head coach named with the Pakistani team since 2023 and follows Grant Bradburn, Mickey Arthur, Simon Helmet, Gary Kirsten and Gillespie.

Bradburn, Arthur, Kirsten and Gillespie all resigned without finishing their contracts while Helmet was appointed high performance coach for a tour of Australia in early 2023.

The others resigned with indications that they were not satisfied with the work of the PCB and the relationship with them.

The PCB has changed its assistance team with the male outfit, including the key coach key station frequently.

Saqlain Mushtaq, Muhammad Hafez and Aaqib also worked as team director or head coach with the national team without much success.

The PCB also appointed Aaqib Javed, who was appointed interim coach, the new director of the National Cricket Academy.
