“No DJs, Dancing Girls”: Sunil Gavaskar’s Blunt Message As IPL Resumes, Keeping In Mind Those Who ‘Lost Dear Ones’

IPL 2025 will restart on May 17 after a week apart. While the border tensions of India-Pakistan intensified, the BCCI, Friday last week, published a statement: “At this critical stage, the BCCI is firmly with the nation. We express our solidarity with the government of India, the armed forces and the inhabitants of our country. Resolved response to the recent terrorist attack and the aggression unjustified by the armed forces of Pakistan.”
The border tension intensified after the Pahalgam terrorist attack on April 22. Up to 26 civilians – 25 Indians and 1 citizen of Nepal – have lost their lives. Upon respect for those who died, the former captain of India Sunil Gavaskar estimated that there should not be entertainment (apart from the sport exposed) in the remaining IPL 2025 matches.
“What I would really like to see is that these are the last games. I think we have had about 60 games or about. I think these are the last 15 or 16 games. I sincerely would like to … because of what happened and some families have lost their loved ones and relatives, I would like everyone to be music. None of this,” said Gavaskar Sports today.
“Let’s just have a tournament, the balance of a tournament. No dancers, nothing. Just. Cricket would be a very good way to respect the feeling of families who have lost their loved ones and dear.”
The Cricket Control Council in India (BCCI) remained close to the participation of foreign players in the remaining matches of the Indian Premier (IPL) 2025, which should resume on May 17, after a week-long suspension due to the Indian-Pakistani conflict.
The BCCI left everything to the franchises to share details on the return of the players, which left for their respective countries following the suspension of the League on May 9 after Pakistan launched missiles and drone attacks in many places along the border. The attacks were thwarted by the Indian defense system, but the BCCI decided to suspend the league as a precaution.
IPL 2025 will resume at Mr. Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru on May 17, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru facing Kolkata Knight Riders, with the last dishes to take place on June 3. “We are not in a position to comment at the moment. The franchises are better placed.
