“Normal Thing For Me”: Centurion Vaibhav Suryavanshi On Hitting First-Ball Sixes

The world of cricket is captivated by its daring ceiling, but for Vaibhav Suryavanshi, 14, things like the six-balls of first-ball are a “normal thing” because it remains imperturbable by the size of the scene. Suryavanshi turned on the IPL by becoming the youngest Centurion of Cricket T20 with its 38-ball 101 which was dotted with 11 six and seven four. A 94 of his races staggered in the limits of what was only his third match in the high challenges tournament.

It was after a 34-point whirlwind on the IPL debut which came out of 20 balls and presented the first six-ball six which firmly fixed the spotlight on his Cherubic face.

“It was a normal thing for me. I played under 19 for India and also at the domestic level, where I struck the first six bullets. I was not under pressure to play the first 10 bullets. In my mind, I was clear that if the ball came in my radar, I will hit the Gujarat titans here at night here.

“It was not as if I thought it was my first game. Yes, there was an international bowler (ahead of me) and the scene was big but I was just playing my game,” he recalls.

The young of Samastipur du Bihar was born three good years after the start of the IPL, so his marauding stroke made him the first player who is younger than the League herself to mark a hundred in it.

Suryavanshi expressed his gratitude to his parents – Father Sanjeev and Mother Aarti – for sacrificing their comfort for its growth.

“I am what I am because of my parents. My mother, for the good of my training program, wakes up at 3 a.m. after sleeping at 11 a.m., just sleeping three hours.

“She then prepares meals for me. My father left her job to support me. My older brother takes care of her work and the house runs with great difficulty. But Dad supports me,” he said.

“… God ensures that those who work hard never fail. The results we see and the success I achieve is because of my parents.” The youngster promised to keep his goal despite the spotlight and work to find a place in the national team.

“I want to contribute to India and I have to work hard for that. I cannot stop working hard until I reach this level. I will try to do well for the country,” he said.

He was also grateful to the management of the Royals of Rajasthan for having instilled his confidence in the stage of the way after having been on board after a trial.

“I had been preparing for this moment for a long time and I am happy that it worked as I wanted.

“They presented me (head coach) Rahul (Dravid) sir. To be formed by Rahul Sir is a dream come true and I receive a lot of support from the other support staff and senior players, they give me confidence that I can do it,” he said.

“They always tell me that I can win it for the team. There is no pressure from what will happen then because they motivate me,” he added.
