Oscar Piastri Fastest In Imola FP1, Gabriel Bortoleto Crashes

The head of the championship, Oscar Piastri, went beyond the time in advance on the teammate of McLaren and the nearest rival Lando Norris during the opening of Friday at the Grand Prix of Emilia Romagna, the two pilots separated by 0.032 only second. Piastri has achieved a better time of 1 min 16.545sec to go the fastest with the Carlos Sainz de Williams, taking third place ahead of George Russell from Mercedes and seven times Lewis Hamilton world champion of Ferrari. After an intense session, reduced by a late accident involving the Brazilian recruit Gabriel Bortoleto de Sauber, unharmed, the first five were separated by only 0.096 seconds.
Pierre Gasly finished sixth for Alpine, in front of the quadruple champion Max Verstappen of Red Bull, Alex Albon de Williams and the jumps of Bortoleto and Nico Hulkenberg.
Bortoleto got into the barriers of Rivazza to bring red flags at the end of the session but rose from the car without injury.
Most of the teams introduce improvements in their cars, there was an air of uncertainty in the opening period when drivers adapted to their revised machines while the circuit was starting to provide improved times.
Ferrari seemed to have trouble matching their competitors and at the end, it was clear that, among the main pilots, Charles Leclerc, who missed Thursday’s media day due to the disease, was the least comfortable.
