PM Narendra Modi Meets Members Of Sri Lanka’s 1996 World Cup-Winning Side On Visit To Island Nation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted on Saturday with members of the 1996 World Cup cricket team and said that the triumph had captured the imagination of countless sports lovers. The PM Modi is an official two -day visit to Sri Lanka. The PM arrived in Colombo on Friday evening for bilateral discussions and the signing of several key pacts between the two nations. Later on Saturday, he met the members of the Sri Lankan team winning the World Cup who beat the Australian team led by Mark Taylor by seven gohets in the final in Lahore. “Cricket Connect! Radio to interact with the members of the Sri-Lankan Cricket team 1996, which won the World Cup that year. This team captured the imagination of countless sports lovers!” wrote the PM on “X”.

The members of the triumphant side, notably Kumar Dharmasena, Aravinda of Silva, Sanath Jayasuriya, Chaminda Vaas, Upul Chandana and Marvan Atapattu presented a memory on occasion.
“In Colombo, the PM @narendramodi interacted with the members of the Cricket Sri Lankan 1996 team, which won the World Cup that year. Here are some glimpses of their interaction,” wrote the Official account of the PM while publishing images of the interaction.
During the final played on March 17 at the Gaddafi stadium, Sri Lanka, led by Arjuna Ranatunga, chased 241/7 of Australia for the loss of only three counters with Silva marking a 107 undefeated.
Rommesh Kaluwitharana, an explosive openness of his time, said after the meeting that India had always held with Sri Lanka, especially during the crisis.
From Silva, the great Sri Lankan striker of all time, congratulated Modi, saying that the Indian PM is well respected worldwide.
Jayasuriya said the interaction with Modi was a great experience and noted that the Indian PM had spoken of his work since coming to power in 2014.
The former Vaas stimulator said that Modi had good cricket knowledge and discussed the players of the 1996 World Cup campaign.
