PM Narendra Modi Meets Special Olympics World Winter Games Contingent In Parliament




Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the special games of the Winter World Games on Tuesday in Parliament and congratulated the athletes for their historic campaign, where they won 33 medals, including 8 gold, 18 silver and 7 bronze medals. “I am extremely proud of our athletes who brought glory to the nation during the special winter games of the Olympic Games which were held in Turin, Italy! Our incredible contingent won 33 medals. Meeting the contingent in Parliament and congratulated them for their achievements,” published the PM Modi on X.

The Indian contingent, comprising 30 athletes and 19 support staff, won the 33 inspiring medals in six sports disciplines: alpine skiing, snowboarding, floor, racket, short speed and cross -country ski skiing.

While India recorded 10 medals each in racket and alpine skiing, 6 medals came in snowboarding. Short speed skating, cross -country skiing and floor floor brought countries 4, 2 and 1 respectively.

Recognizing the achievements of athletes, the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs has announced an increase in cash prices for medals, gold medalists from the tournament receiving a prize in RS. 20 Lakhs, and the silver and bronze medalists were rewarded by RS. 14 Lakhs and RS. 8 Lakhs, respectively.

The Indian team, comprising 30 athletes, three officials and 16 support employees, including coaches, is the largest contingent. The winter games of the special Olympics brought together 1,500 athletes from 102 countries to participate in eight sports disciplines.

The Union’s Ministry of Sports has strongly emphasized the support of specially compatible athletes. In this regard, Sports Authority of India (SAI) had provided 11 camps of national coaches for these athletes in various Indian cities – Chandigarh, Narkanda, New Delhi, Gwalior, Noida and Gurgaon – to help them prepare well for the World Winter Games.

In addition, Sai has provided support to equipment for training and competition. The Ministry of Sports has also sanctioned money towards plane tickets, boarding and accommodation for the participation of the Indian contingent in the World Winter Games.
