Aanand L Rai condemns AI-altered Raanjhanaa re-release: “This is a gross violation of creative trust” : Bollywood News
The filmmaker Aanand L RAI published a declaration strongly written against Eros International after the reissue of his 2013 film Raanjhanaawho again struck theaters on February 28 of this year with a modified apogeus that would have been generated using artificial intelligence (AI). The filmmaker, who made the original film with Dhanush and Sonam Kapoor, has now been publicly moved from the update version.

In a quote shared with the media, Rai expressed a deep disappointment not to be consulted before the reissued. “People have connected with Raanjhanaa Due to his faults and imperfections, “he said.” Seeing its modified end without a word of discussion is a blatant violation not only of the film, but the confidence of fans who carried the film in their hearts for 12 years. “”
The director did not retain criticism from the production house, calling for “reckless” move and questioning his ethical and legal implications. “Eros’ actions open a dangerous door. They raise urgent legal and ethical issues, the impact of decisions like this on the moral rights of the creators,” said Rai.
A particular discord for RAI is the reported use of AI to modify the performance of the main actors, long after the original release of the film. “Worse still, their apparent decision to modify the contributions of the actors without their consent! How can they digitally handle the contribution of an actor almost a decade after the release of a film? This deletes his agency and raises serious concerns under the rights of personality and image,” he added.
The filmmaker also warned of the previous one that such decisions could present himself to the industry. “If that is not part, what prevents anyone from” updating “a film, performances or inheritance to suit short-term profits?” He asked, arguing that the decision may reduce the creative process to something disposable.
“My heart is broken that it is the future towards which we are heading, where intention and paternity are disposable,” concluded Rai. “All I can do is dissociate myself from such reckless and dystopian experience.”
It should be noted that manufacturers have not responded to criticism to date.
