Ram Gopal Varma, never one to chop the words, said: “With regard to fixed quarter -work schedules for the actors, I really think that it is an agreement between two people. Each of them has the right to say what they want, and the other has the right to refuse. ” He also added,
“Everything was a very exaggerated thing in my opinion. Because I can say, I want to work for 23 hours, and the actor can say that I only want to work for an hour. It is their call. But how can a human being force another human being to do something?
The controversy broke out after the reports surfaced that Deepika Padukone had withdrawn from Vanga’s next film Spirit With Prabhas, due to the director’s refusal to respond to his request for flexible working hours – a clause that the actress would have introduced after maternity. The situation has intensified when Triptii Dimri was brought to replace Padukone, causing a social media storm and triggering conversations around the balance of work in the world of cinema.
While some in the film Fraternity applauded Padukone to establish limits and prioritize personal commitments, others have slowed down with Sandeep Reddy Vanga, arguing that directors must also maintain creative control of their shooting hours.
