After the critical and commercial success of JaatActor Randeep Hooda should lead his next feature film – a military war drama based on one of the most complex international operations in the Indian army. Title Khukri operationThe film will tell the daring rescue mission of 2000 in Sierra Leone, West Africa, where 233 Indian soldiers were held hostage by rebel forces.

The coming film draws its account from the real operation produced by the Indian army as part of a United Nations peacekeeping mission. At the center of history is Major General Raj Pania, who, at the time, was a young company commander in the 14th mechanized infantry. The mission tested the limits of leadership and resilience, while the Indian contingent survived a 75-day seat in hostile territory before launching a successful counter-offensive.
Randeep Hooda, who will assume the role of Major-General Punia, described the project as the one who has a personal and national meaning. “”Khukri operation is a story that deeply changed me. It is not only a story of firearms and glory, but of sacrifice, fraternity and inflexible courage in the face of insurmountable chances. The rights to adapt history have been officially guaranteed by Rahul Mittra Films and Randeep Hooda Films. The film is based on the Khukri book operation: the unprecedented history of the most courageous peacekeeping mission in the Indian army abroad, published by Penguin Random House India.
The mission itself, initially conceived as an effort to maintain peace, has turned into a stretched dead end in the jungles of Kailahun. With limited resources and surrounded by hostile forces, the survival of Indian soldiers and possible escape remember an important military achievement. The film should explore the strategy, endurance and courage behind the operation, while highlighting a less known chapter of the international military engagement of India.
