Churchill Brothers Finish Provisionally On Top Of I-League, Title Fate Rests On AIFF Verdict

Churchill Brothers temporarily finished at the top of the table in the I-League 2024-25 after a 1-1 draw hard against Real Cachemir FC in Srinagar on Sunday, but their expectations for the title and a historic promotion at the Indian Super League will spend the verdict of the AIFF call committee later this month. In a last dramatic day, Inter Kashi kept his hopes of title alive with a 3-1 victory against the Rajasthan FC in Kalyani (Western Bengal), marking twice in time, while Dempo SC has exceeded Gokulam Kerala 4-3 in a Thriller at Seven Goals in Kozhikode.

Churchill Brothers finished with 40 points, one ahead of Inter Kashi (39), but the table could still see a torsion if the Antonio Lopez Habas has forced Inter Kashi receives three additional points – currently kept out of suspended – from his protest against Namdhari SA aligning an ineligible player earlier this season.

The AIFF appeal committee should hear the case on April 28.

If the decision goes in favor of Inter Kashi, their point of view of points will reach 42, which makes it the champions of the I-League and sealing the promotion to the ISL during their second season.

The controversy concerns Inter Kashi’s match against Namdhari SC on January 13, when the latter won 2-0. But the AIFF disciplinary committee later discovered that they had aligned an ineligible player.

The Committee awarded a 3-0 package victory in Inter Kashi with three points.

However, the AIFF appeal committee then made the “ineffective and pending” decision to the final hearing.

“The AIFF Appeal Committee aroused the confiscation decision … A final decision has not yet been made,” said the AIFF.
