IPL 2025 – Mumbai Indians news – Jasprit Bumrah expected to miss first few games for MI

Jasprit Bumrah is expected to miss the first 2025 IPL games for the Indians of Mumbai (Mi) while he continues to recover from the back injury that kept him out of action since January. We learned that Bumrah should join the team by early April – MI has scheduled three games scheduled for March – subject to the medical team of the BCCI center of excellence in Bengaluru.
Bumrah recovered stress-related injury in the lower back, which he suffered on the second day of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy’s final test in Sydney on January 4. Bumrah was then excluded from the Champions Trophy, which India won earlier this month. This is the first time that Bumrah has been injured with a back injury since he underwent surgery in March 2023.
While announcing the Squad for Champions trophy in January, Ajit Agarkar, chief selector of India, said that Bumrah had been invited by the BCCI medical team to unload for at least five weeks (from the SCG). Since the Champions Trophy only started on February 19, Bumrah had been included in the provisional team of India. He went to Bengaluru for new analyzes in early February, but continued to feel discomfort and was not appointed to the final team.

He could not be confirmed exactly how many Bumrah games would miss and if there was a final return date.

The first two IPL 2025 MI devices are absent: after starting their campaign in Chennai against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on March 23, they play at Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad on March 29. Mi’s first home game is two days later when they welcome Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on March 31. (LSG) in Lucknow on April 4 and at home against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on April 7.

Its unique action made Bumrah sensitive to back problems, forcing the BCCI medical team, the selectors and the team’s thinking group to balance their workload and to ensure that it receives optimal rest between series / tournaments.

Recently, New Zealand’s former quick launcher, Shane Bond, who worked with Bumrah in the past at Mi in his quality of the team bowling, had warned that if Bumrah was undergoing another back injury where he had undergone the operation, it could be a “career stream”.

Bond, who had undergone chronic back problems during his player career, said that the “danger” area for quick quisors was when they went too quickly from T20 to test cricket, and it was his main concern for Bumrah, also seeing that India should go to England in June to play a five test series barely a month after the end of the IPL on May 25.
