The pair of Indian male male male from Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty has been excluded from the next 2025 Southirman Cup final due to a disease. The world male double duo n ° 10 was to return to action in the competition after an injury break. “Update: Satwik-Chirag has excluded from the BWF Southirman CUP 2025 final due to a disease,” wrote the Badminton Association of India in an Instagram history. Satwik and Chirag participated for the last time in the All England Open Super 1000 last month. Since then, they have been absent from the circuit and had also withdrawn from the badminton championships in Asia.
The former world No. 1 duo has become the second pair of Indian shuttles to withdraw from the prestigious tournament, after the removal of the pair of female female Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand.
The India team will now put the former world champion PV Sindhu, the medalists of the world championships Lakshya Sen and HS Prannoy, among others.
The biennial tournament, which is the world championships in the mixed team, will be held in Xiamen, China from April 27 to May 4.
India has qualified for the prestigious mixed team championships according to their global ranking and will first plan to seal their berth with direct elimination of a difficult range of group D which also includes the ancient Champions of Indonesia, double Denmark and England.
Each equality of the Southirman Cup consists of five games – simple male, simple feminine, double male, female double and mixed double.
A total of 16 teams will dispute the 19th edition of the Southirman Cup. Four seeded teams were placed in separate groups during the draw with defending champions and host in China being the best seeds in group A.
The best results of the Indian Badminton team in the Southirman Cup occurred in 2011 and 2017 when they reached the quarter -finals. In the last edition, India was eliminated in the group phase after losing against Malaysia and Chinese Taipei.
