Borussia Dortmund came from a goal to beat Borussia Moenchengladbach 3-2 on Sunday, keeping their thin hopes alive to reach the top four. Serhou Guirassy, who marked a hat-trick in the 3-1 victory on Tuesday against Barcelona, was again key, marking one and installing another for Dortmund. “We are much safer and much more stable – it’s extremely important,” said Pascal Gross in Dazn, adding “we have four finals to do”. After a breathtaking opening, Ko Itakura put Gladbach in advance after 24 minutes, playing a simple one with Kevin Stoeger to unlock Dortmund’s defense.
Dortmund hit three goals in nine minutes before half-time.
Chelsea Carney Chukwuemeka lender put on the ball to Pascal Gross whose side pass found Guirassy, who returned home.
Chukwuemeka again started to descend on the right side, his pass reaching Yan Couto who in turn found Felix Nmecha who marked a carbon copy of the opener.
Dortmund turned the screws. Daniel Svensson led a rebound of a Guirassy shot just before half-time.
Visitors retaliated when the German striker Tim Kleinientet was shot in the box by Nmecha, with Stoeger making no mistakes on the spot.
Dortmund, however, smothered the return and is now seated in seventh, four points in fourth place, having been as low as the 11th.
Earlier on Sunday, an exhausted eintracht Francfurt fought a goalless draw in Augsburg, a few days after their defeat in the quarter -final of the Europa League against Tottenham.
Augsburg, who climbed the Bundesliga in the second half of the season. were the best side but could not break down visitors on heavy legs.
Augsburg peppered the goal of Francfurt in a series of corners to close the first half, but the visitors held firm.
The injection of Ansgar Knauff at halftime gave Frankfurt a boost and the former Borussia Dortmund winger has come closer to 70 minutes, only for Cedric Zesiger to Augsburg refuses it with a last broadcast intervention.
Despite the draw, Frankfurt set their hold in third, four points away from Freiburg, fifth, and are on the right track for their highest league in three decades.
Finishing in the first four would mean that Francfurt would qualify for the modern Champions League in just the second time in their history, the first come after winning the Europa League in 2022. They reached the final of the former European Cup in 1960.
The hard -disputed draw continued the remarkable record of Augsburg during the calendar year.
Augsburg has lost only one of their last 14 championship games, conceding only seven goals in this round.
During the last round match, the defending champions Bayer Leverkusen play in St Pauli.
Leverkusen is seated nine points behind the Bayern Munich League leaders with four games to play and need victory to keep their hopes alive to catch the Bavarians.
