SFI Confirms 6th Edition Of Indian Open Of Surfing

The Surf Open (IOS), the second judgment of the national surf championship series, should return for its sixth edition, Surfing Federation of India (SFI), announced the national director for surfing and stand-up paddling. Recognized by the International Surfing Association, this national competition will be organized by the Mantra Surf Club and organized by the Swami Surf Foundation. In the picturesque context of Sasihithlu beach in Mangaluru, Karnataka, the event will take place from May 30 to June 1.
The three-day three-day surf competition will attend the participation of India’s best-classified surfers in four categories: Open girls, women for women, GROMS (U-16) BOYS AND GROMS (U-16).
After the International Surf Festival Kerala Varkala 2025, which was held in April, the Surf Open (IOS) is the second stop of the National Championships series. This event presents an intense action and a fierce rivalry between the surfers of the east and western coasts of India. Each event in the series carries crucial classification points which determine the classification of surfers at the end of the season.
Last year, India obtained its first surf quotas for a multi -sport event, obtaining two places for 2026 Asian Games at the Asian Surf 2024 championship in the Maldives – an important step that marks a new era for surfing in the country.
The current edition of the Indian Open of Surfing offers athletes the possibility of strengthening their ranking and strengthening their chances of qualifying for the Asian surfing championship, the qualification event for the 2026 Asian Games later this year.

Kishore Kumar, Harish Muthu, Kamali P, Ajeesh Ali, Srikanth D and Sanjay Selvamani are among the best surfers to look at the Indian opening of surfing, after their exceptional performances in the Asian surfing championship and the Maruhaba Cup in 2024. These athletes have also secured the multiple titles of the national championship in recent years. The year 2024 was a benchmark for Indian surfing, the national team winning a 5th place in Asia and making a strong impression on the international scene.

Before the Open Indian Open of Surfing (IOS), the Swami Foundation, in collaboration with Panambur Surfing School, Mantra Surf Club and Indica Surf School, will organize a GROM search at Panambur beach in Mangalore. The initiative aims to identify and feed young surf talents in the coastal regions of Karnataka.
Selected groms (young surfers) will have access to vocational training under the direction of experienced coaches and affiliated surf schools, helping them to build not only sports careers but also alternate livelihoods and a better future.
