Arsenal Fall Short Again As Striker Woes Haunt Mikel Arteta

Arsenal again failed on the big stage while their painful release in the semi-final of the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain left Mikel Arteta to allow the failure of his club to offer him enough attack options. The Arteta team could not reach the Champions League for the first time in 19 years while PSG won a 2-1 victory at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday. By dragging 1-0 from last week’s first stage in northern London, the Gunners took the start of a flocur in the return match, but could not convert their chances as a superb backup of Gianluigi Donnarumma inspired the 3-1 victory of PSG.
Arsenal was punished for these failures when Fabian Ruiz struck in the 27th minute before the clinical arrival of Achraf Hakimi in the 72nd minute, PSG put on the right track against Inter Milan.
Bukayo Saka reduced the deficit with 14 minutes to play, but it was too late for Arsenal to avoid the last scary flop from the increasingly tortured reign of Arteta.
Since he left his role as a Manchester City assistant from Pep Guardiola to replace the UNAI Emery dismissed at the Emirates Stadium in December 2019, Arteta rebuilt Arsenal after a dark period before his arrival.
The Spaniard transformed Arsenal into pretenders to the title in the series and a force with which it is necessary to count in Europe.
But a final victory for the FA Cup against Chelsea in 2020 remains the only Arteta trophy.
Losing the biggest match in their recent history leaves arsenal against a long summer of regret concerning their lack of success in the last two transfer windows.
The heritage of Arsenal d’Arteta is likely to be tarnished by the curious club decision not to sign a prolific attacker.
The injuries to Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus forced Arteta to use the Spanish midfielder Mikel Merino as a makeshift striker with mixed results in the last weeks of the season.
But even before Havertz and Jesus were sidelined, Arsenal missed the ruthless pointer possessed by the Champions of the Premier League Liverpool and the European Elite teams like PSG.
Arteta had tried to remedy this gap with a movement for the English striker Ollie Watkins during the January transfer window.
However, Arsenal could not convince Aston Villa to accept their offer of 60 million pounds Sterling ($ 79 million), which prompted an arta frustrated to admit that it was “disappointed” when the window closed without strengthening.
‘We must be sharper’
Arsenal offered the title of the Premier League to Liverpool with 13 draws – six more than the Arne Slot team – because their lack of killer instinct was exposed.
And while Arsenal poured into waves at the start of the second stage against PSG, it was clear what a predatory striker added to their dynamic team.
The view of flamboyant saka with an open goal at his mercy in the perfectly encapsulated fence stages of the Arsenal attack problems.
Arteta congratulated Donnarumma as “the best player on the field” rather than blaming his attackers.
But the penalty profession was a recurring problem for Arteta throughout a reign which promised more than it delivered.
Without a title of Premier League since 2004, Arsenal has finished as a finalist in Manchester City during the last two seasons after having wasted significant tracks in the title race.
This season, they could not follow the implacable form of Liverpool, so the attention went to the Champions League.
When Real Madrid holders were demolished 5-1 in total in the quarter-final, it seemed that Arsenal could win the tournament for the first time to validate the Arteta era.
But this wandering finishing Achilles heel, combined with expensive defensive errors, turned out to be fatal against PSG.
Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice said they would need “big bullets” and “magical moments” to beat Luis Enrique’s men.
However, as Rice moved miserably in the tunnel after the final whistle, he was painfully clear what they really needed.
“We were not strong enough in the boxes. This is where we lost it,” said Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard.
“We have to learn. We have done a lot of good things but it is not enough.
“In front of the goal, this is the place where the matches are decided and this is where we must be sharper. We must use this pain in the right direction.”
