Sushant Singh Rajput’s family alleges CBI probe into his death to be “incomplete and misleading,” to file protest petition : Bollywood News

Five years after Sushant Singh Rajput’s tragic death, the late actor’s family has decided to challenge the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) closing report, which concluded that the 34-year-old star committed suicide. The report clears actor Rhea Chakraborty of all allegations, but Sushant’s family has strongly disputed the findings, calling the investigation “incomplete” and “misleading”.

The CBI, in its March 2025 report, ruled out foul play, saying there was no evidence to prove that Rhea Chakraborty abetted Rajput’s suicide or misappropriated his finances. He points out that the actor was alone in his Bandra apartment between June 8 and 14, 2020 – the day he was found dead – and that neither Rhea nor his brother Showik had visited him during this period.
However, Sushant’s family is still not convinced. According to a report by Mid-Day, their lawyer, advocate Varun Singh, criticized the report, alleging laxity in the investigation. “This is nothing but window dressing. If the CBI wanted to find out the truth, it should have submitted all the supporting documents – discussions, technical data, witness statements and medical records. We will file a protest petition against this closure report, which is based on a shoddy investigation,” Singh said.
The CBI submission included two closure reports filed earlier this year. The first was a complaint filed by Sushant’s father KK Singh in Patna, accusing Rhea and her family of pushing the actor to suicide and mismanaging his finances. The second was about a case that Rhea had filed against Sushant’s sisters in Mumbai.
The agency’s findings further indicate that Rajput’s financial matters were handled transparently by his chartered accountant and lawyer. He also deemed the actor’s spending on Rhea — including a trip to Europe in 2019 — legitimate and voluntary. Responding to these claims, Varun Singh claimed that the CBI’s findings lacked transparency, saying, “It is not enough to state that the funds were not withdrawn from Sushant’s account. The CBI must present detailed bank statements to support its conclusion. This flimsy report will not hold up in court.”
The case will next be heard in a Patna court on December 20, where the family intends to formally challenge the CBI’s closure report.
