The city of California in the south of Pomona will host the cricket competition at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, the ICC in Dubai announced on Tuesday. The cricket event, which will include six teams each in the male and female categories, will be held at the Pomona Fair field with sport that will be part of the Olympic Games after 128 years. The president of the ICC, Jay Shah, said in a statement: “We welcome the announcement of the cricket site in Los Angeles 2028, because this is an important step towards the preparation of the return of our sport to the Olympic Games.” “Although cricket is an extremely popular sport, it will be a fantastic opportunity to extend the traditional limits when it appears at the Olympic Games in the T20 format at the rapid and exciting rate which should appeal to new audiences.” The cricket, which made its only appearance at the Olympic Games at the Paris Games in 1900, was included in the Los Angeles Olympic Games program after the 141st IOC session in Mumbai in October 2023.

Cricket joined five new sports in La28, including baseball / softball, Football Flag, Crosse (Six) and squash.

The T20 format, recognized as the vehicle for the growth of the game by the ICC, has also appeared in other multi-sport events in recent years. Asian games in 2010, 2014 and 2023 presented male and female T20 competitions while the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games organized a female competition.
