Staying Vigilant: On-Field Umpires Check Bat Size To Prevent Unfair Advantage, If Any

In a difference compared to the standard, the referees on the ground began to carry out random checks on the dimensions of bats during the current season of the Premier Indian League (IPL) to prevent players from obtaining an unjust advantage. The verification of the dimensions of bats is a widespread protocol but until the last edition, the process was followed inside the limits of the locker room. However, the BCCI, in its attempt to remain more vigilant in times of brutal power strikes, allowed the matches of the match to check any Willow if they deem required, even during a live game.
A former BCCI referee, who has officiated in more than 100 IPL games and many international matches, also expressed his surprise at development.
“The referees keep a bat gauge in the shape of a house. If the bat goes through this gauge, it is deemed acceptable. We all made bats of bats before the start of the sleeves inside the locker room. The players translate their willows and the check is made,” said a former referee with anonymity.
“Now, the question is: has a player provided a bat to check and used another on the ground? If that happened, this protocol is welcome. The players still carry several bats. Although the weight can vary, the height, the width (bat face), the depth (medium of the blade) and the width of the edge must be within the specified limits prescribed by the ICC.”
Depending on the specified dimensions, the width of the bat of the bat should not exceed 4.25 inches (10.79 cm). The thickness of the middle of the bat (swollen part) cannot exceed 2.64 inches (6.7 cm).
The maximum width of the edge cannot exceed 1.56 inch (4 cm). The height of the bat cannot be greater than 38 inches (96.4 cm) from the top of the handle at the base.
In the past few days, Shimron Hetmyer, Rajasthan Royals, Himron Hetmyer, the bats of Phil Salt and the Indians of Mumbai, the Skipper Hardya, were measured with a bat gauge on the playground (FOP).
For the record, all bats have erased the test.
However, the BCCI was tight when asked if there was a violation of the willow dimension, causing the random checks.
A little additional thickness or a little more wood on the edge makes hell a lot of difference these days when even the hidden blows hover in the night sky and end with 10 rows in the stadium galleries in various fields.
Before the start of Monday’s match between CSK and LSG, a total of 525 six have already been affected so far in the current edition. The Antilles Nicholas Pooran striker managed to reach 31 of them.
