Chennai Super Kings is in the middle of a Torrid Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season which sees them placed at the bottom of the points table, with only two victories in nine games so far. Although the hopes of a qualification in the playoffs are only mathematically possible, the results triggered a debate around the deductible undergoing a possible major reshuffle before the next campaign. There are also questions about the future of Ms Dhoni, but if we believe “Chinna Thala” of CSK, Dhoni should stay for at least one more season.
Analyzing the CSK campaign, Raina stressed how poor the team has been in almost all departments, be it the field, the striker or the bowling alley. For Raina, the foundation of the next season would be laid on the auction table for the franchise.
“I hope that next season, they (CSK) come with better planning. And Dhoni will play for one more season, that’s for sure,” said Raina in a conversation with sports presenter Jatin Sapru in a video on her YouTube channel.
Evaluating the mega CSK auction, Raina said that Dhoni does not seem to have contributed to purchases that management had been taken from the 18th edition.
“They always say that Ms. Dhoni makes the last call. But to be very honest, I have never attended auction. I have never been a part of these discussions. I have always talked about players who have been selected. It could receive a call on the opportunity to go ahead with a player or not-but he is not involved,” he said.
“The basic group manages the auction – you can imagine, Dhoni cannot have this type of sale at auction. He would perhaps name four or five players he wants, and out of them, some would be kept. Even if a non -capped player works hard, watch MS Dhoni – being a 43 -year -old captain, giving everything.”
Dhoni himself has not produced a lot of winning blows for CSK this season, but Raina does not expect that of a 43-year-old man. The former striker of India and CSK is happy to see Dhoni keep the counters, the captain and try his song with the bat, but also wants the 10 other players to intensify.
“He plays just for the brand, for his name, for the Fandom – and always makes the effort. At 43, he made the ticket office, the captain, transporting the whole team on his shoulders. But what are the other ten players doing?
“Those who are paid for 18 crores, 17 crores, 12 drivers – they do not answer the captain. Especially when you have never lost against certain teams before – who must be rectified. You have to identify – is this player a match winner? Can I trust this player in the next match? Do you have players.
“I think Mrs. Dhoni will now sit – he will not want anyone around him. He knows that CSK did not buy auction correctly. He would not have allowed him.
