Real Madrid Appoint Xabi Alonso As New Head Coach

Xabi Alonso was appointed the new Real Madrid coach with the Spaniard to take over from June 1 and lead the club World Cup team. “Xabi Alonso will be the Real Madrid coach for the next three seasons, from June 1, 2025 to June 30, 2028,” said Real Madrid in a statement. Alonso succeeds Carlo Ancelotti, who took over as a national coach of Brazil. Alonso, 43, leaves the German side Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the Bundesliga season after finishing second.

“He brought our shirt in 236 games between 2009 and 2014. Meanwhile, he won six trophies.”

Alonso will be officially presented on Monday at 1030 GMT.

The Spaniard led to Leverkusen in a German league and cup in the 2023-2024 campaign, with his unbeaten team in the elite, making it a target for the best European clubs.

Basque coach Alonso had an agreement with Leverkusen to allow him to leave if one of his former teams, including Madrid, Liverpool and Bayern Munich, wanted to hire him.

Real Madrid has already signed defender Dean Huijsen de Bournemouth this summer and Liverpool’s right back, Trent Alexander-Arnold, should follow, his contract ending in Anfield.

Madrid is trying to bring the international to England before the club World Cup this summer, which will be Alonso’s first chance to gain silverware.

Real Madrid faces the Saudi team Al-Hilal in Miami on June 18 during its opening match at the FIFA lucrative summer tournament, which will be the first overview of the Alonso team.
