“Thought My Face Had Come Off, I Was Dead”: England Great Andrew Flintoff Recounts Horrific Car Crash

The old versatility in England Andrew Flintoff suffered a horrible car accident during the shooting of the BBC Top Gear in 2022. After the accident, Flintoff needed surgery. Following the incident, the BBC suspended the production of the program, former England also receiving 9 million pounds in compensation for the event. Now, speaking in a new Disney +documentary, Flintoff said that the experience was traumatic.

“I thought I was dead, because I was aware but I couldn’t see anything,” he recalls. “I thought, is that? Is that? Do you know what I mean? Just black for the rest of my days? My hat came to my eyes – so I pulled my hat and I thought, no I am not [dead]I am on the top track. It is not paradise. “”

Flintoff was so afraid of having felt that his “face had come off”. “I thought my face was coming off. I was afraid to death.” The incident took place on December 13, 2022 at the Dunsfold Park aerodrome in Surrey. Flintoff led an open Morgan Super 3, accelerating with a BBC report, when the vehicle turned around and slipped.

“While he was starting to pass, I looked at the ground and I knew, if I am touched here on the side [of the head] Then I will break my neck, or if I am struck on the temple, I am dead. The best chance is to go downwards. And then I remember hitting [the ground] And my head was hit, “he added.

“But then I was dragged, and the car passed, and I went over the car, then [I got] Drew face down on the track about 50 meters under the car. And then I hit the grass and then [it] returned back. “”

Surgeon Jahrad Haq, who treated Flintoff, said in the documentary hat that injuries were “very complex”.

He “lost a really important part of his upper lip-the skin and part of the underlying muscles-and also his lower lip,” he said.

Flintoff said he did not think he had in him “to pass” the test.

“It seems horrible. Part of me wants to have been killed. Some of me think I would have liked to die,” he added.

“I didn’t want to kill myself. I don’t want to confuse the two things. I didn’t want to, but thinking it would have been so much easier …

“Now, I’m trying to take the attitude, you know what, the sun will get up tomorrow, then my children will always hug me, and I’m probably in a better place now.”
