The Mumbai Indians decided to retire Tilak Varma with seven remaining balls in their race against Lucknow Super Giants in the 2025 IPL match on Friday. Tilak, who struck the 25 out of 23 deliveries, suddenly released the ground before the last ball of Shardul Thakur finished and was replaced by Mitchell Santner. Mi needs 24 out of 7 bullets at that time, but Avesh Khan managed to defend 22 points in the final to win the LSG match. “It was obvious that we needed sure and he did not get … in the cricket, one of these days comes when you really try, but that does not happen. I think that the decision explains itself why we did it,” said Hhelik Pandya after defeat.

The former skipper of the Mi Rohit Sharma came out of the contest after being struck in the knee during the nets.
