Umar Gul In Discussions With Bangladesh For Pace Bowling Coach Role




The former fast launcher of Pakistan, Umar Gul, is in talks with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) concerning the possibility of becoming the bowling coach of the national team. The BCB is currently looking for a new pace bowling coach to replace Andre Adams, whose two -year contract takes place until February 2026. However, a senior BCB official revealed that ADAMS, who will supervise the Pacers in the next series of two -game tests against Zimbabwe, is unlikely to complete his contract because of the growing consumption of the team. This prompted the card to find a replacement.

“We are in talks, but nothing has yet been confirmed. Confirmation depends on mutual understanding and terms and conditions, and it depends on the board of directors,” said Cricbuzz Gul.

Since his retirement from international cricket in 2020, Gul has built a significant coach career. He played 47 tests, 130 ODI and 60 T20is for Pakistan between 2003 and 2016. After his retirement, he occupied coach roles with Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistani Super League (PSL), the National Team of Afghanistan and was then a quick Lot coach of Pakistan.

In addition to Gul, other names that would have been taken into account for the role include the old Australian stimulator Shaun Tait, as well as the former Bowling coaches of Bangladesh Allan Donald and Ottis Gibson.

Meanwhile, the BCB has extended the coach contract of Phil Simmons to the ICC 2027 World Cup. The Board of Directors also finalized the renewal of appointment of Mohammad Salahuddin as the main assistant coach.

“The verbal agreement with Salahuddin Bhai was finalized. The formalities could be completed at the meeting of the board of directors. The announcement was to be made then, but for unforeseen reasons, it was postponed,” said a BCB official.

Salahuddin, a highly appreciated coach in Bangladesh Cricket, previously held the role of the senior assistant coach and then added the title of the stick coach. He should play a crucial role in Bangladesh preparations for their next international assignments.
