Vijay Raaz found NOT guilty in 2020 sexual harassment case, court cites lack of evidence : Bollywood News
Actor Vijay Raaz was authorized for all accusations in a case of sexual harassment. The case was deposited by a colleague during the shooting of SherniWho with Vidya Balan also played. Wednesday, the Gondia additional additional judicial magistrate court, Maharashtra, said actor innocent after completing the trial. The court judged that there was not enough evidence to prove that Raaz was guilty. Judge Mahendra Keshao Tate said the accusation had not established the accusations under articles 354-A (sexual harassment) and 354-D (harassment) of the Indian penal code. Consequently, the actor was acquitted.

The case dates back to November 2020. According to the complaint, the actor would have touched the woman without her consent, adjusted her mask and comments on her appearance. Later, she informed her elders and filed a FIR at the Ramnagar police station. Vijay Raaz was arrested in Balaghat, Madhya Pradesh on November 4, 2020, and was released on bail on the same day. During the investigation, the police collected video surveillance images and recorded witness statements. However, the court concluded that:
- No witness has seen the incident directly.
- Video surveillance images did not clearly support affirmations.
- The main complainant died before the end of the trial.
- Other witnesses have changed their statements or could not support evidence.
For these reasons, the court judged that the case was not strong enough to condemn the actor. Raaz’s lawyer, Saveena Bedi Sachar, said the actor had to leave the film and have lost work due to allegations. She added that this case shows why it is important to wait for the court’s decision before judging someone.
The court also ordered the cancellation of the Raaz surety surety, the return of the amount of the deposit and the destruction of the video surveillance images seized. However, Raaz was invited to provide a deposit of 7,000 ₹ to guarantee its presence if a call is made.
