RCB and Kohli sit second in Table IPL 2025, on the same number of points as the Titans of Gujarat (GT) at the table, and are about to seal their qualification for the playoffs. Kohli had an out-of-competition campaign, after having amassed 505 points in 11 games with seven half-centuries.

Kohli has never won a IPL trophy in his career, losing the final three times. RCB will have work to do in the absence of the regular captain Rajat Patidar, as well as the possible unavailability of some of their star artists abroad. Kohli is unlikely to lead RCB despite the absence of a patidar, with Jiteh Sharma likely to fill.

Kohli had announced his Test Cricket retirement earlier this week, calling for time on a sparkling career where he raised 9,230 points in 123 tests, and was also captain of India at 40 wins in 68 games.

“It has been 14 years that I have not worn ample blue in test cricket. Honestly, I never imagined the trip that this format would take me. It has been tested, shaped me and taught me the lessons I would wear for life. There is something deeply personal to play in whites.

“While I move away from this format, it is not easy – but it feels good. I gave it everything I had, and it made me much more than I could have hoped for. I move away with a heart full of gratitude – for the game, for the people with whom I shared the ground, and for each person who made me feel along the way.”

“I will always go back to my test career with a smile. # 269, signature,” he concluded.
