Virender Sehwag Questions Virat Kohli’s Retirement Call Again: “Could’ve Played Easily…”

The legendary Indian cricket team, Virend Sehwag, again questioned Virat Kohli’s decision to announce his test retirement. After Kohli, 25-ball-43, Knock for Royal Challengers Bengaluru during the IPL 2025 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Sehwag said that the starred striker could easily have played for two years in taking into account his level of physical form. Kohli decided to say goodbye in the format before the five -game series against England, but Sehwag argued that he was two years older in him. “Certainly. I think he retired too early in the test format. He could have played easily for two years, the way he maintains fitness. But only Virat Kohli can tell the reasons for the decision. It is the personal decision of a player according to his will, or if he feels exhausted,” said Sehwag on Cricbuzz.

“But in my opinion, the way he played and the way he showed energy, he has the impression that he could easily have played for two years,” he added while analyzing Virat’s performance after the meeting.

Shubman Gill was appointed 37th test captain in India while the chief selector Ajit Agarkar announced the team of 18 members on Saturday for the crucial five game tour in England, from June 20. The Rishabh Pant ticketkeeper was appointed vice-captain.

The selection committee led by Agarkar, as well as the BCCI secretary, is ahead of Saikia as head of the meeting, chose the team at a meeting at the headquarters of the BCCI in Mumbai, before announcing it during an official press conference addressed by him and Shiv Sunder Das.

“We have discussed all the options that are there, in the past year, we watched Shubman at various times. I took a lot of comments from the locker room. Very young, but there was an improvement.”

“We hope he is the guy. He is a great player, our best wishes for him. You do not choose the captains for a tour or two tours. We have seen progress in the past two years with him. No doubt, it will be as difficult as possible,” said Agarkar on the elevation of Gill as captain.

Gill played as a surgery and number three for India tests, and he now holds the role of leadership after Rohit Sharma announced his retirement in the format earlier this month.

In 32 tests, Gill scored 1893 points at an average of 35.1, with five centuries and seven fifty against his name.
