The duo Williams Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon say that it is bad that they and their Formula 1 drivers should face prohibitions for the procedure. Sainz, who moved to the British team Williams of Italian giants Ferrari, criticized this decision by the FIA Motor Sports Director to codify a rule that can mean that the engines are condemned to a fine or to suspend for having sworn or criticizing the civil servants. Albon added that drivers had already spoken together how to respond to this decision.
“He is still underway on how we want to define what we say around him,” Albon told the new Williams car in Silverstone on Friday.
“It’s a delicate matter and, of course, do we think it’s true? Of course not.”
Sainz said that even if it was reasonable to expect that drivers avoid swearing while speaking in a public setting such as a press conference, it was a different question when they were on the track.
“What we are saying about the radio (car), I don’t agree with what’s going on,” said Sainz.
“I think you cannot be too hard on this kind of thing because you cannot understand the pressure and adrenaline and the way we feel in the car when we open the radio.”
“And I think that for F1, it is good to have these moments because you see the real driver.”
The Spaniard added: “When you hear this passion, these words, even if sometimes we swear on the radio, for me, it is a goalkeeper in F1 and it is something that we should not get rid of.”
Officials have not yet explained how the new system will work, but last year, the president of the FIA, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, said that he wanted to prevent drivers from tightening during driving.
