Wouldn’t Have Been Saved If Not Given CPR Properly: Tamim Iqbal On Surviving Heart Attack

Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal expressed his gratitude after being released from the hospital following a heart attack on Monday. Although he retired from international cricket in January 2025, Tamim is still active in national cricket. He captain of the Muhammedan sports club in a first division Dacca first division cricket league match against the Shinepukur cricket club when he started to feel bad after the draw. Tamim was initially taken to a local hospital for treatment, but collapsed later and had to undergo angioplasty surgery on Monday. The veteran said that his life had been saved due to the appropriate cardiopulmonary resuscitation (RCR) which was given to him at the time of his heart attack.
“By all your prayers, I am at home now. In these four days, I discovered my environment because I found a new life. All this achievement has only love and gratitude. I had your love throughout my career. But now I felt it even more intensely. I am really outdated,” said Tamim in a message published in Bangla.
He also expressed his deep gratitude to healthcare professionals, hospitals, support staff and people who played a vital role in his recovery, with a special mention of coach Yakub Chowdhury Dalim, whose opportun RCR when he collapsed was considered a safeguard.
“How to thank our Coach Yakub Chowdhury Dalim Bhai, I don’t really know. I learned later that specialized doctors said that I would not have been saved if Dalim Bhai had not given RCR properly at the time,” he wrote.
Tamim concluded his post saying: “The path of full recovery is still long. Keep me and my family in your prayers. May the life of everyone be beautiful and peaceful. Love for everyone.”
Considered one of the best bangladesh strikers, Tamim played 387 games through formats, marking 15,192 points, including 25 centuries. It is also the second highest in tigers through the three formats, only behind Mushfiqur Rahim.
