Punjab Kings head coach (PBKS) Ricky Ponting addressed the injury crisis within the team after the versatile Australia Glenn Maxwell was excluded from the Premier Indian League (IPL) due to a finger injury. Maxwell broke his finger during training, making him the second PBKS player to be removed after the New Zealand pace Lockie Ferguson also underwent an end of season injury at the start of the tournament. Wednesday, Captain Pbks Shreyas Iyer revealed that they had not yet decided to replace Ferguson and Maxwell.
To be honest, we have not yet decided replacements so far, but we are strong enough in the state of mind of our team and what we have outside our XI playing. We have varieties of players who can win you. We will therefore stick to this as much as possible, “said Iyer, during the draw for the PBKS match against CSK.
However, Ponting confirmed after the match against CSK that “we will sign some replacements at some point”.
Ponting, however, blamed the Super League Pakistan (PSL) in progress for the lack of quality options with regard to replacements.
“So, we were a little patient. Maxi was only a few days, Lockie’s was two or three weeks. And with the PSL which happens at the same time, there is not much high quality replacement, to be honest. So we were patient. We, a few guys trained with us yesterday and they will come with us to Dharamsala, we will examine them more closely and they could end up with a punjab contract.
