EXCLUSIVE: 5 hours. 4 decision-makers. 1 rule broken? Inside the 5-hour Maddock-PVRInox meeting that paved the way for Bhool Chuk Maaf’s 2-week OTT drop : Bollywood News

The landscape of theatrical liberation could be on the verge of a silent but seismic change – and everything revolves around Bhool Chuk Maaf. The next Romcom induced by Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi has already made the headlines for its back and forth release strategy. Initially, supposed to go directly to digital – allegedly due to the volatility of the market and the tense geopolitical backdrop – the film should now publish theatrical on May 23. But what really rocked the job was the murmur of a simple 2 week window before landing on Amazon Prime Video.

Exclusive: 5 hours. 4 decision -makers. 1 Rule Breeding? Inside the 5-hour Maddock-Pvrinox meeting that paved the road to 2 weeks of bhuool chuk maaf drop
If it is true, this decision would diverge from the theatrical exclusivity period traditionally followed by 8 weeks, which the exhibitors generally insist on protecting the income from cinema before a film reaches OTT. But according to sources that closely follow developments, Bhool Chuk Maaf has just become a special case – thanks to a strategic meeting behind the scenes involving Maddock and Pvrinox films.
Earlier this week, a five -o’clock in camera would have taken place at Maddock’s headquarters in Mumbai. Participants included producer Dinesh Vijan and the top brass of Pvrinox, namely Kamal Gianchandani, Thomas d’Exza and Rajender Jyala. A source from the industry aware of the meeting told Bollywood Hungama: “The conversation did not only concern this film. It was the long -term content pipeline, mutual partnerships and the sustainability of business in a changing ecosystem. At first, a 4 -week window was floated.
Although Pvrinox informs the commercial initiates that the shortened window is a by-product of legal negotiations and legal proceedings, sources suggest that the terms have been affected by internal discussions, emphasizing future collaboration rather than confrontation.
Our source adds: “Amazon Prime Video wanted to present the film early, on time with internal planning requests. This emergency pushed the stakeholders to assess if exceptions could be made – in particular for a production house like Maddock, which has a solid record and consistent with theatrical versions. ” In return, Vijan would have offered future distribution links to Pvrinox for Maddock’s next projects – a lucrative proposal that has helped soften the rigid position around the 8 week standard.

While the reports of legal tension between Maddock and Pvrinox surfaced earlier this month – the latter even obtaining a suspension prescription against the digital version first – Reunion may have helped to cool legal heat. Interestingly, the sources suggest that Vijan, during the discussions, has raised more important concerns of industry such as the prices of food and drinks (F&B), rigid expectations of exhibitors and the imbalance in the presentation of smaller films. “He would have asked if a commitment to the 8 -week theatrical exclusivity is accompanied by a guarantee of respectable screen retention or timings,” reveals our source. This sharp question, it seems, that Pvrinox reflects on the current dynamics. “With the pressure of OTT platforms, competition from other versions and the increase in spectator’s expectations, there was a consensus that flexibility could be the need for the hour – especially when the producer has a negotiation power.”
The Bhool Chuk Maaf scenario could be a test case – which could influence future conversations between exhibitors and content producers, in particular mid -budget filmmakers who are looking for hybrid models. Although no official declaration has been published confirming the OTT window, the trade is effervescence with speculation and the exhibitors would have watched this case closely. Many fear that this decision – if it is not carefully supervised as a single -off – could establish a precedent that others could cite, thus weakening the collective position of the exhibitors over the rule of 8 weeks.
With only a few days before the release of the film, all eyes are on the question of whether the beginnings of 2 weeks over 2 weeks arrive – and if so, what could be the biggest benefits in an already evolving exhibition ecosystem.
