Scriptwriting guilds around the world come together under one roof in India, for the first time in history. In a historic event for the film industry, the Association of Scriptwriters (SWA) of India will host the Annual General Assembly (AGM) of the International Affiliation of Guilds Writers (IAWG) in the country. The Mega Gala will bring together the leaders and the scions of the guilds of writers around the world in Mumbai, from October 6 to 8.

SWA is about to welcome representatives of the Writers Guild of America (West & East), Writers’ Guild of Great Britain, Writers Guild of Canada, as well as delegates from the European guilds, Australia, NZ, Latin America, Africa and Asia – who will have a 3 -day scenario and a formative discussion on urgent challenges confronted with overall scriptwriters.
Mr. Zaman Habib, Mr. Anjum Rajabali and Mr. Mitesh Shah will represent the SWA at this AGA. “It’s not just an event – it’s a moment of international solidarity,” said Anjum Rajabali, principal writer and member of the SWA committee. “Writers are confronted with common difficulties everywhere: for a fair salary, residues / fees, creative rights and protection against exploitation. But too often, multinational studios and streaming platforms treat the writers of the world of world from their Western counterparts differently.
Call him a “World Forum to discuss and defend the rights of writers”, Zaman Habib, secretary general of the SWA, said standard contracts for collective negotiations, IAWG is working to ensure that the writers are recognized as the first creators of the cinema process. And Swiss has their full support, now more than ever.
AGA will focus on developing strategies to ensure fair treatment and equitable contracts through borders, sharing the best practices of recent guild negotiations in the world (such as the WGA strike in 2023) and Standing United against discriminatory practices by producers, studios and streaming platforms.
Over the past decade, SWA has continued to work on its commitment to ensure that Indian writers are granted the dignity, respect and compensation which they rightly deserve. A unique event like this underlines the position of SWA as the main union for all screenwriters, and emphasizes the growing role of India as a creative power in the world entertainment industry.
