For Ajay Devgn fans Drishyam Frankly, October 2 has always been an important date. From its recurring presence in the story to its clever link with the suspense of the film, this date seemed to be the perfect opportunity to unveil the announcement teaser for Drishyam 3. However, while a teaser, which would have lasted 1 minute and 25 seconds, was ready, the reveal never happened.
Why didn’t the Hindi teaser of Drishyam 3 arrive on October 2? Here’s what we know!
A report by Mid-Day suggests that the delay was not simply due to unfinished background music, as producer Kumar Mangat Pathak suggests, but was linked to the creative agreements between the makers of the Hindi franchise and the original team behind the Malayalam films. Writer-director Jeethu Joseph and producer Antony Perumbavoor, who have overseen the franchise since its inception with Mohanlal, are said to have a say in when and how Hindi adaptations release content.
Meanwhile, on the Malayalam side, Drishyam 3 is already moving. Mohanlal began shooting for the crime drama on September 22, with the official announcement following soon after. On the other hand, Ajay Devgn’s Hindi adaptation, helmed by Abhishek Pathak, is expected to go on floors only in December. After Mohanlal’s update, the Hindi team quickly announced a release date for its version on October 2, 2026. According to insiders, this sudden reveal of the date did not please Malayalam producers, prompting them to implement the adaptation clause.
Adding another layer to the friction is the director’s choice. Originally, the vision was to have all three versions – Malayalam, Hindi and Telugu (starring Venkatesh) – directed by Jeethu Joseph, with a simultaneous worldwide release scheduled for October 2, 2026. But with the massive success of Abhishek Pathak’s film Drishyam 2 (2022), producer Kumar Mangat reportedly pushed his son to direct the trio in Hindi, breaking with the previous plan. The move is believed to have created creative differences, leading Antony and Jeethu to focus on ensuring that the Malayalam film hits screens before its Hindi counterpart.
As it stands, while fans await clarification, both versions of Drishyam 3 are moving forward: one is already rolling the cameras, the other is preparing for production. It remains to be seen whether Georgekutty and Vijay Salgaonkar’s much-awaited story will unfold in a carefully coordinated manner, or whether audiences will know the conclusion in Malayalam before Hindi.
