In A First For India, F1 Academy Picks 10-Year-Old Racer Atiqa Mir For Its Driver Program

Friday, the feeling of karting, 10, became the first Indian and Asian to be signed by Formula 1 Academy for its Driver program, a testimony of its rapid growth in the world of motorsport. The F1 Academy, a series of female races belonging to Formula 1, decided to take Atiqa on board for its Discover Your Drive (DYD) program after having closely followed its stellar performance on the karting circuit. The Jammu-et-Cachemire runner is only one of the three engines in the mini category (8-11 years) worldwide to choose for the DYD program.
The Atiqa will represent Formula 1 Academy at the Championship of the Future Academy Program Champions of the Future Academy with six laps in Europe and the Middle East, from this weekend.
The F1 Academy invests in the rare talents of Atiqa by providing financial and technical support, covering its physical form, its conduct and its mental preparation.
Being signed by F1 Academy is a major springboard in the Attiqa flower racing career and it duly realizes the importance of this opportunity.
“I am so excited to hear this incredible news. Being chosen by Formula 1 Academy is a huge honor for me and for us here in India. I will work hard and play my best and repay the faith in me by the Formula 1 academy. It is massively encouraging for me and I am very proud to represent my country,” said Atiqa.
Formula 1 created the F1 Academy with the sole purpose of developing and preparing female drivers to progress towards higher levels of monore races.
Susie Wolff, a former runner who led a Formula 1 car, is the general manager of F1 Academy.
“To conduct the significant change we want to see in our sport, we cannot simply speak, we must act. I see many more girls in competition in karting and we want to make sure that the best can progress,” said Wolff, who is also the wife of the F1 F1 Toto Wolff team.
“The introduction of a recruit test of the F1 academy and the continuation of our collaboration with the Champions of the Future Academy program are unprecedented opportunities for young emerging talents and will help us cultivate a competitive talent pipeline for the senior category for the senior category.
In addition to the creation of a range of female runners for higher levels of motorsport, F1 Academy aims to play an instrumental role in taking a Formula 1 driver, which is considered to be the ultimate in motor sport.
Friday, with the announcement, Atiqa entered a selected club of female runners who are there to break this barrier.
Last month, Atiqa became the first Indian woman to sign a full season with the Karting World Series.
