The next five -game test series against England is nothing more than a big headache for Indian selectors. The biggest bomb came in the form of the sudden retirement of the Sharma skipper test, who called time in his career in the longest format after playing 67 games. A few days later, a report became viral on social networks, declaring that Star India Batter Virat Kohli also plans to retire the test cricket. As these two shocks were not enough, the selectors faced another blow in the form of the Mohammed Shami rhythm.
According to a Times of India report, the stimulator subject to injuries is not a direct choice for Indian team selectors against England. Its form and physical form are a great concern because selectors must now find a balance in the bowling range.
“For the moment, Shami is not an automatic choice. He has not returned to international cricket for months, but it has barely been in pace. Shami underwent an Achilles tendon injury during the ODI 2023 World Cup and was out of combat in 2024. He returned to the field in the T20I series against England in February 2025. Since then, he played in the Champions Trophy and also plays in the current IPL.
The Indian committee seeks to manage the workload of the Jasprit Bumrah rhythm when it has just returned after recovering from the back injury it suffered during the Border-Gavaskar trophy against Australia. Now, if Shami is also able to play the five tests against England, the selectors will have a difficult period.
